Pelvic Health Physical Therapy for Women and Men

The pelvis is such an important part of the body. It supports the spine, allows you to control your bladder and your bowel, and is essential in sexual health and childbirth. It is also one of most under appreciated and poorly understood areas of the body. Many people are embarrassed to ask questions or discuss concerns about bladder, bowel or sexual functioning. Past trauma or cultural conditioning, can make this an extra sensitive area for many people. It is my goal to help reduce the discomfort of addressing these issues, and help you regain joy and pleasure.

Pelvic physical therapy is the first line treatment for several pelvic health conditions including:

Urinary Incontinence

Overactive Bladder

Fecal Incontinence

Constipation

Pelvic Girdle Pain

Pudendal Neuralgia

Pelvic physical therapy is also helpful as part of a medical team approach for addressing other pelvic health conditions including:

Endometriosis

IBS

Pelvic Organ Prolapse

Erectile Dysfunction

Vulvodynia

Interstitial Cystitis

and more

Comprehensive Pelvic Health Evaluation

Comprehensive Pelvic Health Evaluation is for women or men experiencing bladder, bowel, or sexual health concerns. Together, we will review your symptoms, past injuries or illnesses, and what things have seemed to help or worsen your symptoms. Your story often paints a picture of what is working well and what is not working well. The physical assessment includes evaluation of posture, spinal alignment, movement patterns, strength, flexibility, and other special tests to help identify the root cause of your symptoms. An internal (vaginal or rectal) assessment of the pelvic floor is often recommended* as this helps provide important details about muscle tone (tightness, spasm, trigger points, etc.), muscle strength/endurance and muscle coordination necessary for bladder and bowel control. Comprehensive Pelvic Health Evaluation is scheduled for 90 minutes to allow adequate time for education, questions, and to establish a detailed plan of care.

*An internal assessment of the pelvic floor muscles can provide valuable information, but is NEVER required. Please schedule a free consultation if you have any questions or concerns prior to scheduling.

In Person Follow-up Session

Standard in-person appointments for established patients are 60 minutes, and designed to address your individual needs. Sessions may focus on hands-on manual therapy, muscle re-education, biofeedback, mind-body skills training, exercise progression, and/or education. Shorter or longer appointment times may be available if needed

Telehealth Follow-up Session

Telehealth Sessions are a great option for patients that don’t need hands on therapy treatments. Sessions can be scheduled for 30 minutes or 60 minutes, and focus on progressing self-care and home exercise programs
